The Medellin How Are We Doing Project

The Medellin How Are We Doing Project -MCV- is a private initiative created by Proantioquia, the Medellin for Antioquia Chamber of Commerce (Cámara de Comercio de Medellín para Antioquia), the El Colombiano Newspaper (El Colombiano), EAFIT University (Universidad EAFIT), the El Tiempo Publishing House, the Corona Foundation (Fundación Corona) and the Bogota Chamber of Commerce (Cámara de Comercio de Bogotá).

The main goal of this project is to make an assessment, from the citizens' viewpoint, of the city's changes in terms of quality of life. Its specific goals include: to promote an effective and transparent government; informed, responsible and participative citizens; and enhance work under alliances focused on the city's quality of life.

The Project stands on two pillars: Assessment and Communication. The first pillar involves combining the follow-up and analysis of objective and subjective indicators. Objective indicators are mainly provided by the City's Administration, while Subjective indicators are obtained from the Citizens' Perception Survey, which is part of the project and carried out every year since 2006 among persons of legal age and representing the opinion of the population of Medellin, by urban area, socioeconomic level, and sex.

This information is complemented by the opinions provided by experts by means of the work desks on different matters and personal interviews. The second column shows the ample disclosure of the results obtained with said combination. This dual mechanism, along with the different entities present which are members of the alliance, warrants the independence and objectivity that this type of exercise requires.

Indeed, this initiative needs the citizens' support in different contexts. Hence, the expectation lies on the committed participation of all of the population who wishes to have an active role as main characters of their own development.
