Work Papers

One of the goals of the Social Think-Tank Center, an initiative of ANDI, Comfama, ISA, Proantioquia and Suratep, is to publish and disclose the original analysis made on a local, regional, national and international viewpoint about economic and social-political phenomena. This is embodied by the Center by publishing the series Work Papers (or Documentos de Trabajo), a contribution to the public analysis and discussion of those subject matters which have the highest impact on the population's quality of life, and to progress in the search of building closer ties between the academic, public and private sectors.

The Work Papers published by the Social Think-Tank Center is a constant source of academic discussions, reviews, works, recommendations and proposals. Hence, the Center's publications are private and subject to the scrutiny as well as possible comments or suggestions from the citizens. These are the first four documents of the series which we reviewed:

  • Document No. 1: The Quality of Air and its Impact on Child Mortality: Several Considerations

This document is a brief review of several considerations made by the World Health Organization on the quality of air and its impact on children. Likewise, it includes relevant information on the quality of air of Medellin and several policy recommendations for the city.

This document reviews the presentation given with the same title by Doctor Mauricio Santa María, Associate Director of Fedesarrollo, during the Social Think-Tank Lecture organized by the Social Think-Tank Center last year. Said Lecture included Doctors Mauricio Vélez and Jairo Humberto Restrepo.

The purpose of this document is to present - bearing in mind the discussions made during the Open Lecture Jorge Cárdenas Nannetti held last year in association with the University of Antioquia and based on the diverse work made by the Think-Tank Center - the main challenges of social policies for our country and our region, to seek alternatives and recommendations for their solutions.

This document is an overview of all of the opportunities and changes which have taken place in the Colombian Healthcare System, as of the enactment of Law 100 of 1993. Likewise, it closely shows the main risks shed on the System's sustainability as a result of the recent ruling of the Constitutional Court on this matter.
